Did anybody experience this?
Lesson in life for guest players: Never tell a conductor friend that you have prepared for his audition when he wasn't expecting an audition as he had observed you in a music camp that you were a good player.
Result: The outcome of this is that he will be interested to hear your prepared piece when you were least expecting him to ask and therefore, unprepared to play the piece well.
I thought I had to audition for a conductor I knew many years back, but he wasn't expecting one, at the mentioned of a prepared piece, he decides to listen! And the result? I was unprepared for the unexpected.

I was ready for a prepared piece but after hearing the good news that I didn't need to play for the audition, I was unprepared to play well for the unexpected. For your information, I made it through the audition even though it didn't go as well.
