I moved from California to Arizona and there doesn't seem to be any decent woodwind music stores. I wanted to look and test the mouthpieces directly without having to go through the hassle of returning them online. Anyone in Arizona know a store that carries B flat clarinet pomaricos?

Your best bet on-line is: Woodwinds & Brasswinds. www.wwbw.com/ I bought a Pomarico from them about 6months ago, and they had the best price I could find. Check their 'trial' offer ..... try several mps, return the ones you dont want. Reasonable cleaning/restocking charges.
Word of caution: dont go to Weiner Music. They sent me 3 mps that were REALLY old; even the boxes were shabby. I complained to them via 'phone, and they still charged me for cleaning/restocking even tho I reassured them I didn't play them.
This is my experience and advice ...... YMMV.
Joe.

I got a Pomarico mouthpiece from Weiner and had no problem with it being "really old," in fact, they were out of stock when I ordered it so I had to wait an extra week or so. I don't see how being really old would hurt (I guess maybe if the cork rots off). I have an O'Brien mouthpiece which is really really old and it still plays great. I've ordered other stuff from Weiner and never had any problems with them. If you want to buy one in person get ahold of Pomarico's US wholesaler (check their website for contact info) and see who carries them in your area.

thanks for the replies. I ordered one from wwbw.com and it's shipping. But I was wondering how long they would take because they are moving warehouses. It seems like there will be quite delay because of their move. Has anyone ordered from them recently?

Neil, the only problem I have with old stock, especially mouthpieces, is the probability that they have been tried by several people and rejected by them. I dont particularily care to sort through other peoples rejects.
Not only were the boxes quite shopworn, Pomarico has been putting a 'watermark', (the letter 'R'), on the table of its mouthpieces for several years. The stock I got from Weiners was not marked in this fashion.
I'm indeed glad that your dealings with them have been to your satisfaction; mine weren't. As I said, YMMV ......

I had ordered some stuff from wwbw not too long ago, and their service has been declining in I guess the past year. This time took forever, and they sent the wrong product, and even what they sent was in bad condition. I had ordered a neckstrap and was sent a kooiman thumb rest, and even though it said that reeds were in the package too, they weren't. Hell they weren't even in stock(despite what the website said) and wouldn't be for another week(that very possibly couldv'e not been true) when we called them. The person we talked to offered very little help and was actually rude. We eventually canceled the order and used other more reliable places for the products. I have been having problems with them for a while now, but nothing that I couldn't put up with until this. I now use(and have been using) Davie cane for reeds, and muncy and weiner for equipment. I use eble music for.....music.

Not to mention the possibility of someone trying minor refacing or accidentally scratching and perhaps WORSENING a mouthpiece, without the company accepting the returned mouthpieces noticing!
But don't forget that one person's trash is another person's treasure (so THEY may have rejected it, but maybe you'll like it!)

Yeah, they are taking a while with my order. BTW Mr. Gibson, I live in Gilbert. I moved from california and feel that for some reason the competition is more harsh in Cali. The clarinetists at my old school were really good considering they were only in high school.
