 Hanson Professional Clarinets

OK, I did the search and found a review of a Hanson student clarinet.

I'd like to know of personal experience with the Hanson T5, T6, T7 professional clarinets.

Man, that rosewood and gold plate combination is certainly beautiful.

Well I am saving up to buy the T5 G Bb and A, so thanks for the question, will be very interested in the response.

I have one of their student models and have to say I have been very impressed. The intonation is great and it is built like a tank, and the key layout exactly suits my fingers. A friend I know who has played a lot of clarinets had a go on it and was rather impressed by it. She thought the keys were a bit stiffer than she personally liked, but that is something that can be adjusted and she is used to a buffet R13 pair which is set up to her spec and which is been played for many years. The Boosey an Hawkes and Buffets I have played (community owned ones admitedly) have been distinctly wobbly in comparison. The keywork seemed fragile and there was a lot of play, and the intonation, especially in the throat, was harder to get right.

I have high hopes for the T5s, but they can be sent back before 7 days if they don't please. Also, I believe it is possible to arrange to and try instruments out at the factory, it is somewhere on a hill in Yorkshire I think. The people I have dealt with at the factory are really friendly and relaxed. You might get a delay in response or have to leave a message because they are such a small company, but so far the product has been great for me and I enjoyed dealing with them. I don't feel like I am lost in the system, and if you email a question then a reply from the owner of the company at least makes you sure you have the right answer, even if it takes a few days to come!

And the T7, they pretty much design round you. Who could resist! Sounds like a dream.

Hope you have a good experience, will be eager to hear what everyone else thinks.

My first and only clarinet is a student Hanson. I cannot compare it to another model. My teacher says it sounds good.

I got an overnight reply from Mr. Hanson, himself.

I asked about a left hand Eb and articulated G#. The LH Eb is affordable, and the articulated G# is probably not.

I'm impressed with the customer service so far.

thanks, all

I bought the hard rubber student model over three years ago and it was amazing value for the money. About half the price of a B12 I think. It plays very well and it's perfect for a beginner. Quality seems very high and it's made to last forever. The customer service was first rate.

The only thing I've noticed is the altissimo sounds sort of screeching and piercing compared to my wooden clarinets. Since I have a similar problem with a plastic Yamaha, I wonder if this is a general problem with plastic vs wood.

Given the quality of their cheapest model, I'd love to try their top of the range instruments!

Steve

PS They also sell saxophones now.

These are certainly well crafted clarinets and a nice alternative to the mass produced French ones.

I'd be interested to hear from any British professional clarinetists (jez??) if you'd had experience with these instruments and what your opinion is, thanks.

Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

My daughter had a Hanson HE3V student model as her first clarinet. We were very happy with that and have upgraded her to a T5 clarinet now. This is a beautiful instrument, and sounds lovely. She has only just got the clarinet and is delighted.

I would like to say that the customer services from Hanson are second to none. They work really hard to make sure that everything is just right for the customer. It's not unusual to deal with Alistair himself if you have a query; and nothing seems to be too much trouble.

So far I would have to say, wonderful product, excellent value and superb customer services. Buy with confidence.

They are on holiday at the moment though (or were last week) so if anyone doesn't get a reply for a week or two, that is why.

Can anyone enlighten me on "bi-thermal reinforced grenadilla" ?

And any play tests of the titanium models?
