I'm new with the clarinette (formerly on sax tenor) and I'm about to buy one. I'm amateur so I won't spend my rent for the next 6 months on that but I want a good clarinette that will please me for long. I guess that a wooden clarinette worth's the $$. I'm able to pay up to 800 canadian $. What kind of horn should I get???

I just bought a buffet e-11 in december and am very pleased with it. had some minor problems with it at first but was able to have them corrected easily. Try web site music123.com they have a great price on the e-11 right now

Leblancs, Buffets, Selmers, and Yamahas are all good. You can probably get an new intermediate or used pro model for this price if you shop around, check the mail order outfits and have patience. You can get a good used intermediate for significantly less.

Dee's right on if you plan to use it to further your musical education or make some money with it. If its wood you want, then stay with the big 4 above. Not all wood models can be classified as good. There are some real clunkers out there.

Glancing at "clarinette"(a French for clarinet),I thought you are of French speaking region of Canada. Next I guessed you may prefer French sound better than American. If you like Michell Arrignon or Jacque Lanslot(mis-spell?) better than Harold Wright or other American clarinettists, it would be better to acquire French tone instruments.
For example,Buffet R-13 is very American(darker tone) but Buffet RC is more French(very brighter). May need a clarinettist friend to choose.
By the way, besides above you may need a review in what tuning wind instruments are made in your Region. In America A=440Hz,in Japan A=442Hz. I do not know what tuning is in Canada. Manufacturers change every tone hole gaps very slightly. It cannot be done by only changing barrels. A wrong choice may bring about an awkwardness in ensemble or with piano, I am afraid.
This is a suggestion from a Japanese.Please forget this posting if anything in the above is not true of your case.

I have had a Buffet for 20 years, and it has been a great clarinet. My music teacher, who also played professionally on the side, had the professional version. I played it occasionally, and it was the musical equivalent of driving a Porsche or BMW. Good luck with lessons and embouchure. I also have played the tenor saxophone.
