I've been trying to find out more information on a clarinet I found at a garage sale. I can't find ANYTHING about it online. Even google turned up nothing! I'm hoping someone can tell me something about it!
It's a silver clarinet with the word "stanton" engraved into the bell. It has a seiral number but thats all the markings on this. I looks really old. I'll attach an image of the engraving to this post.
Please let me know if anyone knows anything about it!
Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim - That name is new to me, so I made a quickie Search [top of the BB] on Stanton Clarinet, only a mention of a ?music? store in Colombus, OH, tho. Many metals were made and "stencilled" with a "good" name for US sale by local and foreign makers in the 1900-30's era. Our "resident expert" on metals, Jim Lande, posts an annual listing PLUS, of metal cls for sale. I suggest looking up these and running down the many he has found for Stanton. Good luck, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don

I'm having some trouble finding a list of clarinets by Jim Lande. Does he have an email address or anyway of reaching him? Also, is it possible that someone named Stanton happened to own this clarinet and did it himself?
Thanks,
Tim

Hi again Tim - What I was trying to pass along was that a number of non-maker cl names [we call them stencils] were used, generally before about 1960, some by music stores et al . Jim [and most] uses the term "metal" as most are steel/brass, plated with Ni or Cr, some Ag. So just search "Lande [or metal] clarinet" and scroll-call up annual lists. Metal cl makers back then were Bettoney, Conn, King-Cleveland, Haynes etc in the US, Selmer, Noblet etc in Europe. Glad to help, have a couple metals myself, just mediocre tho. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
