 Zonda reeds opinions
Author: Becky
Date:   2000-03-10 01:50

Hello-- a few months ago my band teacher recieved some sample Zonda reeds in the mail. He let me try them and they really worked for me. The tone was crystal clear, the response was sharp( so was the articulation)and it lasted for more than three weeks, only slighty thinning. I was wondering what some other Zonda users or triers have experienced. Maybe I am just lucky and found a good match for my mouth piece and lig. ( i play on a Vandoren 5rv lyre and BG lig. and I am using strength 4.) Thnx for your comments!
P.s do you have any highly recommended mouthpieces and or barrels? I prefere reponsivness, med.-darker tone, and strong projection. I'm going to go shopping soon.

Zonda sells two types "traditional" and ordinary one. They now sells both. Which one? I guess users of "traditional" are still scarce.
p.s. "Traditional"looks like Vandoren traditional(2.8mm heel thickness). Ordinary Zonda looks like V12(3.2mm heel thickness).

Great, bought a box. Consistant and sweet.

I've just started using these reeds myself. It's early days to form a complete impression, but my initial feelings about them are very positive. Prone to chirping sometimes, but that could be a mismatch with the mouthpiece.

I've had good results with Zondas, except that they die early. I only can compare them the the Steuers that i normally use--i have a few reeds from five years ago that still play well. I do rotate about twenty, though. Even in that rotation, the Zondas don't last nearly as long.

But i do get a lot of good ones straight out of the box.

I teacher did the same thing and i had just the opposite response. They were good out of the box but after a good two hours of playing they would be brittle, and this is with some rotation in the usage.

I thought they were VERY consitant and I also like the little velvet holder they come with.

I liked them but I thought the Marca Traditionals I had played more to my liking. The Zondas are very consistent though *this in Vandoren's sloppy era LOL*. They are as consistent as the GC's but the tone I get is a lot darker. They're nice overall, I just love my Marca's better.

I use Zonda regulars #3.5 regularly, also Grand Concert Select. I find the Zondas to be very fragile, especially at the sides of the reed tip for some reason. Perhaps it is the way I handle them, but I've lost a number of reeds when a "splinter" breaks away. Maybe the fibers don't stick together as well.....

i haven't had good luck at all with Zonda's. I don't even find that they play well right out of the box. They chirp extremely with me and the sound isn't as great. I play on a Pyne BC. A lot of people I know play on Zonda's with Pyne mps and have wonderful results. I wish I could say the same for me!
