 Voicing?

I have read many comments on this board that cite correct voicing as a solution or incorrect voicing as a problem. How does one practice voicing? Things like Pines of Rome are a serious pain for me, and I have no problem doing whatever it takes to get it right... so how does this voicing thing work? Thanks!

I describe voicing as what a singer does to change registers and I encourage my students to sing the pitches and copy what they do with their tongue position and throat position when they sing. Voicing is getting the proper tongue and throat position. You will notice how things change as you sing a gliss from a low note to a high note, or sing a low not and skip to a high note, you will feel things changing in your throat and tongue positions. It takes a bit of concentration and practice to understand how to put it into practice on your clarinet but that's a good place to begin. ESP eddiesclarinet.com
