 Contrabass Stand

What's the scoop on an instrument stand for the contrabass clarinet? I haven't seen anything advertised, and I don't know much on the subject. How do you handle it?

I have a friend that built his own contrbass stand. And it also hold a contralto and bass clarinet... and alto... He winds up playing them all in one concert (like I would sometimes) so he just built one from a miorphone stand and some wood pieces.

Which size of contrabass clarinet are you referring to?

Konig & Meyer stands have served me very well over the years.

Its "contrabassoon stand" works excellently with Leblanc coiled Bb and Eb contrabass (paperclips). The wide brace craddles the coiled body comfortably with room to spare.

Its "wide top brace/large bottom cup" bass clarinet/basson stand works equally well with all straight-body Eb contrabass clarinets (Leblanc, Selmer, Bundy, Buffet, Vito), and yes, it even works well with the BIG Vito Bb contrabass!

The trick is find the right adjusted height for best balance, and tighten the screws securely for best safety.

And, this is an important point, if you are resting the instrument on the stand with the instrument's peg extended, make sure the peg does not have a sliding/slipping problem. If it slips, your instrument will bottom out, and it will incur great damage. My advice is to retract the peg on the instrument, and only rest the bottom of the bell on the stand.

I use K & M's for my contalto and contrabass. They work well.
