I’ve seen something like this before, it is an extra altissimo vent that connects to LH1 so that when you are playing in the altissimo an extra vent opens up. How does it play?

This is a typical SML 'feature'; it mimics the way most high-end bass clarinets provide additional register keys (bassoons too).
As I recall, some of their saxophones also had additional register/octave features.
