vandoren hand select

Hi. I was just wondering if Vandoren hand select reeds are worth the price compared to regular vandorens. (and no, i don't star in the x-files)

Depends how much extra, and what they mean by hand-select in your neck of the woods. . I go to Vandoren in Paris and ask for reeds by strength -- in my case, 52, which is between 2 1/2 and 3. I always get absolutely consistent quality, and pay 110 francs for a box of 10, compared to 100 francs for a regular selection. To get 10 out of 10 usable reeds makes it worthwhile for me.

Even if very consistently good reeds have been obtained in Paris, it may not work in another country as M.Vandoren himself admits:Reeds are like wines. I read an article somewhere in a resource.

I purchased hand-selected boxes always in Japan. They were good in 1970's but were not so good after then. I do not know its reason. Some people say in the mid 1980's there was a bil chill in Europe and Var canes were damaged.
Anyway,now I do not buy any.

FYI:I am an Alexander Superial Classic user of 3.2 mm heel thickness. If I choose 2.8 mm heel thickness reeds of top quality cane like Vandroen hand-selected, it might be Marca(not thick heel Marca-traditional),Zonda classic(not ordinary thick heel Zonda),or Rico Grand Select(not Grand Select Thick Blank).
