The 6th by Beethoven is scored for Bb clarinets right?

Thanks for the quick help. I tried playing some of the exposed solos on my piano after listening to a recording, but it only told me it'd probably be Bb, because it'd be much easier.

Envying David -- would love to play this piece, especially solo in 2nd movement, but my chamber orchestra probably doesn't have the horses to pull it off.
Well, I dunno -- we pulled off 8 last year...

Well, I'm doing auditions for the first time for our national youth orchestra and since my teacher isn't at home and I just received the excerpts I'm supposed to play, I wanted to make REALLY sure I play them on the right clarinet when I'm going

The tricky part of the clarinet solo in movement 2 is it begins at the development section and involves very sustained playing...the grace notes should be heard clearly as well...
There is also alot of pitfalls in terms of counting...(I have done Beethoven 6 several times so hopefully this crack at it will be the best one.)
ON top of this there is a very big solo at the very end of the 2cd movement too...this one just after the cucoo bit.
I reccommend listening to Szell with Cleveland and also the fine Bernstein New York account on CBCSony. I really think the Szell is very fine and offers alot to learn from. Marcellus is at his very best here....
The scherzo is very tricky too...after the opening the clarinet solo is quite tricky and dicy... I think more players should try to make the downward appregiation "heard" more.

I've heard that 3rd movement solo die away to nothing on some recordings as it zooms downward. I think it should be sorta loud and obnoxious (but always in control, of course). I always picture a drunk gettin' right in your face and shouting out, "WHOO-EEEE!!" It's like a day at the county fair, and there's always some yokel tanked up on corn squeezin's making a fool of himself.
