 Rehearsal from Hell, Part III
Author: Carol Dutcher

Oh yay. I got my check in the mail yesterday. It was for $75. I was happy with that. He also called and was making sense. He said we got lots of compliments on the band and that we put the club in the "black". They are floundering (the club is, not us.) So it all ended on a positive note, excuse the pun, and the lemons all turned into lemonade. Thanks for listening to me whine out here in the wine country.

Take the $75 and buy something clarinet related for yourself (tuner, metronome, barrel, etc..) so everytime you use it, you will be reminded of that (ultimately) positive experience.

One summer, when I was still a teenager, I was playing gigs every weekend (in the Catskill hotels and surrounding bungalow colonies). I took all the money from each weekend gig and placed it in an envelope in a drawer. I didn't look at it until the summer was over.

At the end of the summer, there was enough to buy a Mark VI tenor sax. It was a nice reward for a summer of hard work.

Today, every time I play it, I'm still reminded of that particular summer...GBK

I need to do the same -- take every check from my gigs and put it away. Someday before I die I'll have enough for a new A clarinet. Or a sax. I really need to learn to double.

/gets out gig schedule for swing band -- lotta upcoming dates!

Didn't sound like whining to me, I knew all along you'd do a good job :) Sounds to me as though you might find yourself doing lots more gigs. I wish you well.
