It's like author Daniel Wakins says in his NY Times article:
"The oboist is particularly important, and is often seen as the pre-eminent woodwind voice (though clarinetists and flutists may dispute that judgment)."
I always thought the CLARINET was the pre-eminent woodwind voice!
