Selmers are higher pitched because one is supposed to use a softer reed. Shouldn't we measure the instrument from the top of the barrel to the side A-trill key's tone hole center? How about the Pete Fountain clarinet? He said that he uses a 2 1/2 reed. Something should be in the specs. The Buffet R13 was known for its ability to play the high notes soft. On others one can play the C arpeggio and that thumb C on top sticks out too much like a ...well, you know. But on the Buffet one can climb upward with a soft reed without slipping.

Hi Ken - I'd guess that the reason no one has responded, is because we cant figure out if you are asking questions, or are telling us of your conclusions on several diff insts. If you can clear up our "fog", we prob will discuss. Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
