A while back I bid on a lovely pair of full boehm Silva Bets. A week after the auction I got an email suggesting that the original deal fell through and offering a 'second chance' opportunity for me to get the pair for my highest bid price. Sure enough, if you search eBay you will see that there is such a thing as a second chance offer.
I contacted both the seller and the winner and learned that the deal went through and therefore that the offer was bogus.
Nonetheless, I replied back to the offer and negotiated a lower price. They wanted a Western Union money order – the type you can email (and that eBay warns against.) I acted dumb and kept suggesting that I send a personal check. We went back and forth for a while. I was stalling why I tried to get someone at either eBay or the FBI interested in doing a sting. Finally, I claimed that I snail mailed a Western Union money order. After a week I said that it must have been lost in the mail and that I couldn’t get a refund for months unless they sent a notarized letter saying that they had lost the check. I was hoping for a souvenir. No soap. They stopped answering my emails.
I had a little fun with it.
Needless to say, be wary about a ‘second chance’ opportunity.

The fecundity of the human imagination is without limit when it comes to thinking up ways of extracting money from other people.
Amazing! Thanks for the heads-up. And I'm glad to had fun.
