I am looking for individual parts (particularly Bass Clarinet) for Ravel's La Valse and many of Strauss tone poems. Is there any way to buy individual parts? If so how?
Also, what would the transposition be for a part like the bass clarinet part in "La Valse" that is in bass clef and says, "Bb Bass Clarinet?" Is it as written? Also, what is the transposition for a part that reads, "Bass Clarinet in A" when playing a B-flat instrument? Just want to know once and for all....

Yes, you can indeed buy the individual parts from the publishers. Generally, your best bet for parts is with Warner Brothers (although that's not a good bet for those pieces), Kalmus, or Luck's Music Library. Contact them and they will be SURE to help...I don't know about cost, but I would guess anywhere between 5 and 10 dollars. Don't take my word for it though.
When transposing from A to Bb, if you're playing a Bb instrument, play the A part a half step down. That will give you the correct pitch. (i.e. if the A part says to play G, play Gb on a Bb clarinet).
If a bass clarinet part is written in bass clef (i.e. Cesar Franck's Symphony in D Minor) you play as written. For example if it says to play F# (fourth line of bass clef staff), you would play F#, not G#. One clue would be the key of the part with comparison to the Bb clarinet part. If they are in the same key, then you should play as written (no transposing and generally speaking).
