Is it a different mouthpiece for bass than contrabass clarinet? Or the same mouthpiece and different neck/instrument sizes? If so, anyone know any reputable contrabass mouthpiece makers (a la Grabner quality - LOVE his work!)

I hired Stephen Trier's contrabass and he had been using a Leblanc mouthpiece (yes it is different to bass). Trier was the top dog bass player in the UK in the 70s and 80s.

Clark Fobes has a "Debut" BBb contra-bass clarinet mouthpiece for less than $100.

Both the mouthpiece and neck are very different. A contrabass clarinet player told me the Fobes (I think a professional model) is the best contrabass mouthpiece he knows. He plays a Selmer wood contrabass.

A bass clarinet mouthpiece is smaller than a contrabass.
Eb contra-alto and BBb contrabass mouthpieces are the same on the outside but have different chambers and tenons. A mouthpiece for one instrument will not fit the other. Also, the older Leblanc BBb contra mouthpieces were larger on the outside and took a larger reed.
Vandoren contra reeds fit the old Leblanc BBb mouthpieces. Vandoren bass sax reeds fit the Leblanc Eb, the newer Leblanc BBb and the Selmer mouthpieces.
The least expensive mourhpiece is the Fobes Debut in plastic for $89.
The Selmer contra mouthpieces are made of good quality rubber and are a step up, at something over $100. However, the facings are almost always crooked. Selmer's machinery is worn and out of adjustment, and they sell so few contra mouthpieces that they couldn't recoup the cost of repairs. The best solution is to get the closest facing Selmer (the C*) and have Roger Garret or Walter Grabner reface it.
At the top are the Fobes San Francisco models ($239 for Eb, $295 for BBb).
