What have some of you found to be the best microphones for recording the clarinet sound in live situations like recitals? I have a pair of Sure SM94 condensers that we use at church.(two to three hundred dollar range) They are very sensitive and are supposed to be flat and omni-directional. Work great for making a mumbling kid sound crystal clear at the x-mas program from 3 feet away. Don't think they have a 10K lift either. When I use them with the choir I get a brittle sound and they like to pick out one or two sopranos(so much for the omni thing). They don't seem to catch the depth of the sound I hear in the room. They tend to treat a clarinet sound the same way. There have to be mics out there that are not too expensive that will do a complimentary job on a clarinet sound without using equalization. Can anyone offer advice?
