Tomorrow I start rehersals for a New Year's concert with music by Johan Strauss and family. One piece by Joh. Strauss, "Geheimnisse aus der Wiener Tanzwelt" asks for clarinet in "E", one semitone higher than the Eb clarinet. This is the first time I see original music for such an odd clarinet in print. Earlier I have played a B natural clarinet but from music rewritten for A clarinet.
Has anybody else ever seen original parts written for "odd-key" clarinets?
I own a German simple-system High Pitch Eb-clarinet that actually plays close to E. Maybe I shuld give it a go.
