I would like to warn the community about a seller on ebay named CPAOK. I tried to ask him a question about an instrument he is selling on ebay he claims once belonged to Robert Marcellus. That is quite a claim to make and I wanted to know what he based the claim on. He dodged the question and attacked me, questioning an auction I had run.

I had no problem with him.
Perhaps a phone call would be in order.

MSD,
You may well have a legitemate issue, but I would suggest being very careful about airing such a concern in a public forum like this.

CPAOK always outbids me on select clarinets. Ooooh that makes me mad! But I also happen to think he is one of the best resources on eBay for clarinetists. My experience is that he is honest, dependable, speedy and careful in shipment, and in all ways truly professional. I don't wish to "enter the fray" and fuel a debate, but I am sad to read these comments here about him.
Hopefully our tastes in clarinets will someday diverge Ha-ha!

Why? Are you threatening me?
[No, that's common sense. You've crossed a line here; while you can tell people you had an unsatisfactory experience with someone, you don't have to get into specifics in such detail.
Also, information of a personal nature (such as his BBoard experiences) have nothing to do with his professional nature, and become off-limits immediately.

Particuarly with xmas here, people are overpaying for old clarinets.

I would also like to put in a good word for Cpaok. I have done business with him many times throught the past years and have found him to be extremely honest, accurate with his ebay descriptions and very willing to make buyers completely satisfied. Thanks, Chester Rowell

Having purchased a clarinet from Cpaok I can say that he is very professional. The horn was as described and the work done to it was excellent. He contacted me over the phone twice to check out what I needed to get me going. He was very nice about it. However I have seen his post they are interesting. However I like a good argument every now and then and usually he tends to have a point. I dont know if this is allowed but about that "450$) marcellus you mentioned. The only way the horn Marcellus or not would go for that little is if you dropped it off a building. Old R13's in A are hard to come by on Ebay especially ones that have had that extensive amount of work done on them. Ok theres my two cents worth. I am curious to know what he said about the marcellus so Email if you have time. Thanks.

I've bought three clarinets from cpaok and have found him to be an honest, helpful and trustworthy seller. Communication has always been excellent, and the clarinets have been as good as they were described. I'd buy from him again anytime!

I've done business with cpaok for several years. He has always delivered exactly as advertised and has been very, very fast to ship. I had a problem with an instrument that I bought from him and sent him an email. He picked up the telephone and called me within 10 min. from when I sent the email. He paid for return postage and was absolutely professional and knowledgeable in the transaction.
Cpaok is a player who is very, very involved with the clarinet community and has also been known to frequent this board, so whatever you have to say to him needs to be direct.
Perhaps the clarinet was set-up by Marcellus. Wait until you have the whole story before you trash his reputation.

Um, I tried to get the whole story. That's where the problems started.

I had the worst experience on eBay with this seller CPAOK. I've BOUGHT the older Buffet Crampon clarinet from him. Clarinet was described: ***No cracks, no repairs, the wood is in excellent condition, PERIOD! ***. When the clarinet arrived I've found badly chipped chimney under the UJ ring key and two old and highly visible cracks on the Bell. I've told him the situation. He agreed to take clarinet back for a refund minus shipping. I said this was not acceptable. I did not want to loose $40.00 on shipping just because he lied describing the instrument. At this point he became very nasty and turned things around and began acting like a victim. He accused me of extortion and I did not even ask for anything yet, just stated the facts. Finally, I've lost my patience and called him ^$^*@!%(*&$ and said he could choke on this deal and then explained that I just wanted to ask if he had another replacement bell for the cracked one.
Couple month later after this incident I've received an email from ebay dealer (he is a member on this BB but I don't want to mention his name) with the question about CPAOK. He said that CPAOK sold him damage clarinet case which was described as mint. At least now I know that I'm not the only one who was screwed by CPAOK
I do not have a single negative feedback for selling, only the retaliation feedback from dishonest dealers like CPAOK.

Hi,
I was going to stay out of this one but I too had an unpleasant experience with CPAOK but as a result of something from this BB. The point was about a sale that he was making on eBay. I said "I also have a Portnoy ligature (like the one you can buy from the same seller for a pretty steep price)" on this thread http://test.woodwind.org/clarinet/BBoard/read.html?f=1&i=107114&t=106782
I merely stated what I thought to be a fact and in no way made a libelous statement. The result was that I have been permanently banned from bidding on any of his items.
I tried to reconcile with him recently. No luck; I'm still banned. Life is too short to harbor these kinds of feelings.

Ebay has a very good system for rating sellers. I'd suggest that people use it to both the research the sellers & their responses to negative feedback.
On the Bboard things can easily get out of hand.
Most major sellers have a few negatives along with the positives, and how negatives are handled will tell a story.
I'm closing this thread now before it goes too far.
