What cane do you guys/gals use? I've been curious to try some other brands. I've been using daviecane for sometime now but I'm game for other suggestions. I tried the Vintage cane from Australia but didn't like it too much. Any suggestions???

I've had some success recently with cane I've grown in my back yard. It was transplanted to our flower bed behind the house from a field next to a delivery company about two years ago. Reed cane, Arundo Donax, also grows along nearby river banks and creekside locations in my neighborhood. The smaller diameter stuff is not bad for oboe reedmaking, by the way. It grows rather easily and profusely, is considered a nuisance plant by environmentalists, and that's why the county has an intense eradication effort about this time of year, every year. I've read nothing about it so far this season; perhaps they're short on funding this time around.

Wild reed cane is pretty much a grab bag offering, free for the taking but kinda fun just to go out walking and see what results from the "pickins" :)

I imagine Daviecaneand other grower/suppliers cane is more scientifically cultivated and grown specifically for the reed-making industry. So, for most folks, I assume that time-wise and for useable consistency you're probably better off buying from a commercial supplier.

The cane offered by Davie Cane is the same cane used for Gonzalez reeds. Their cane is also sold to other reed companies.

It is grown in the plantations of Argendonax S.R.L, Mendoza, Argentina.

A glimpse into the growing and manufacturing is found here:
