I had auditions for CU Honor Band today and was very nervous. This caused me to make a mistake, which made me even more nervous, which made me make more mistakes. I kept making more and more mistakes which upped the nervousness even more? What can help with this?

What can help?
Avoid anything with caffeine (cola, chocolate, coffee, tea).
Take slow, deep breaths with your eyes closed to relax before the audition.
Get more experience playing in that kind of situation (psychologists call it "desensitization") to get comfortable with playing under pressure.

Say "phooey" to the mistakes. The best thing I've been able to do in the past year or so is to stop worrying about mistakes. I play how I play, and that's how I'll play. As a consequence, I'm more relaxed and make significantly less mistakes.

I agree with EEBaum - a technique I have learned is to accept the mistake the moment you do it, and move on. This all happens the millisecond after you do it.
At an audition, they want to hear people play well, not screw up. Think of it like that.

I third the motion from Alex and LeWhite. Most mistakes in these things are avalanches which were triggered by an initial mistake that you didn't let go of. LET GO! Most of the music for tryouts of this kind is selected in the hope that most players will make at least SOME mistakes. Otherwise, how do you tell the differences between the players--a swimsuit competition? <g>
Every bar line can be a fresh start. Look ahead and not behind. If you wrecked the previous measure, it is already too late to fix it. Deliver the next measure in mint condition, and the audition judges will find what they've sought for so long.
