I'm considering purchasing a Wiseman case for my low C bass clarinet and have noticed that they are also made for other instruments (and combinations) as well. Do any of you have one--and if so, could you share the advantages/disadvantages, likes or dislikes, etc? Thanks.
(just did a "search" and found nothing)

I personally don't have one but my clarinet teacher has one for his bass. I think it's ugly! I realize the main purpose of a case isn't to be "pretty", but I just wouldn't want to carry it around. Just my (superficial) two cents. Personally, I wish BAM would make an XLight bass clarinet case. That would be cool to see!

I don't own one, but I wish I had I the $$ for one. They are very well designed and compact. I think they look pretty cool as well. Bass clarinetists and bassoonists who I know that have them love them. The only complaint that I have heard is that when fully loaded, they can be a bit heavy.

Judging by the pictures on WWBW, I'd have to agree with theclarinetist. They can't make it prettier?

William..........
I personally do know know a player who uses one.
However, try eming Howard Klug at IU.
At the 2002 Okla symp, he had one for his bass and Bb.
While speaking with him, I got a close up look at the bass case (in/out)...Bullet proof.
I t appeared a little too unwieldy but for travel purposes it was very protective.
hope this helps

ps.....thanks for your em on my 'new' R13A

great cases, but way to expensive to me :(
They're indeed very strong and he can alter the inside of the case to you brand/model of clarinet. his combination cases are just terrific, but don't buy them for beauty
You can contact him by email and he will give your posibility's about cases and pricings.

A friend of mine has one for her bassoon. It's very good, great quality, but it's really heavy.

OMG! My friend just got one, because the military bought it for him. He was late to rehearsal once and when he was trying to be quiet while opening the case, the band director stopped the band and said "That is the loudest case I have ever heard!" (If you don't know, it has velcro to keep it closed, at least on the Bb case)
Reasons he doesn't like it:
-Too heavy
-Music compartment is curved like the case, so you have to curve your music... too bad for hard covers
-Once you close it, it's too much trouble to open again
My other friend bought the one for the bass, and he has the same problems as my other friend does. (Where did my friends get all this money anyway??) So he has gone back to the BAM case for his low C bass.
My suggestion, go BAM. It's lighter, just as "cool," and comes in fun colors! It even has a cool poncho that folds out to cover it when it rains. (My other bass friend has a blue BAM for her old Selmer and she loves the poncho). lol.
Good luck,
Contragirl (who is about to buy a green BAM double clarinet case.:P )

William
I've been using a Wiseman case for almost a year now, I regularly need to carry my bass and 2 other clarinets. When you consider the price against other products that allow you to carry multiple instruments and the level of protection it gives I don't think it is bad value for money. I don't think they look too bad - then again I don't consider my case as a fashion accessory It has the great advantage of being small enough to take onto a plane as hand luggage enabling me to take a bass, a Bb and an Eb all onto a plane without worrying about them being in the hold.
Regarding the weight - yes it is heavy when fully loaded, however, once you've got the straps adjusted it is well balanced on your back. I can happily walk the 1.5 miles from the station home with this case. Easier to carry the bass alone in it than the small case Yamaha supplied it in, much easier than carrying 3 clarinets in separate cases.
The velcro is noisy, then again the info sheet that comes with the case advises you that in the unlikely event that you would ever show up late to open the velcro outside the venue and use the belt to keep the case shut.
I really like the case and would happily recommend them.
