I'm doing a project on how sanding different parts of the reed will affect the tuning. I know that there are a lot of variables, but I might be able to compensate for them. If I make the sanding uneven, will the reeds just play fuzzy, and the tuning not be affected? I don't adjust my reeds much so I don't know. Any background info on reed adjustment and tuning would be appreciated too!
Thanks, Amanda

You should contact Tom Ridenour - his ATG system is sandpaper based.
Depending on just how much wood you remove from the reed, the pitch can and will lower if then it's too soft for the mouthpiece + embouchure.

You might want to check some of the MANY excellent books and chapters on single reed adjustment (Kal Opperman, Larry Guy, David Pino, Keith Stein, Larry Teal, etc...)
Rather than just scrape away indiscriminately, you could also take a few hands-on lessons on reed adjusting from a private clarinet teacher...GBK
