If you go down to 18th Street between 5th and 6th Ave., you can go to a place called Academy Records. HUGE inventory of used CDs. Tons of hard to find stuff too. For sheet music, go to Franks Music, which is located on 54th Street. I do not remember exactly where it is in relation to the avenues, but I believe it is just east of 8th Ave. It is on the 10th floor of the building located just east of the Golds Gym(There is a huge sign on the facade). They may have a website. Anyway, certainly worth checking out. The Juilliard Bookstore has some sheet music. There are also some good sheet music stores in the Columbus Circle area. Basically, you could spend a lot of time just in this area! Be sure though to visit Franks. Great place in a tiny hole in the wall.

Franks Music's website is http://www.frankmusiccompany.com and their door address is right there.
Julliard Bookstore is located practically right above Alice Tully Hall between Bdway and Amsterdam, accesible by going up those outdoor steps at the 65th and Broadway corner.
