Just received a copy of Big Band East's latest CD ... won't mention who on this BB plays with them ... you'll just have to figure that out.
It's all that is lovely in big band music with some wonderful vocals (male and female). The sound from the saxophones is particularly mellow, casting a warm golden-red glow over the sound scape. No problems with ensemble or pitch (as one would expect from such a group) and a nice collection of music Glenn Miller's generation would have been thrilled to hear.

Good to hear the Hamptons are so alive with fine music, an asset to the state of NY to be sure.
Without music, the world would be grey, very grey.

Yes, noone knows who it is you're talking about... you should drop a hint. Maybe something about a former Soviet spy agency.

Drop a hint? give me three letters ... (that's a big enough hint for the sharp of eye)

There once was a jazzer named Glenn
Who wrote out a limerick now and than
He also played sax
Used a nice Selmer axe
But his main love was living with Jan
Take that, DS. I know, don't give up my day gig.

With the exception of the subliminal lyrics on Blue Moon that chant, "Glenn is dead" when you play the CD backwards it's a fabulous Jazz recording. Hey, long live GBK!! v/r Ken

It's hard to post in a jovial vein when the group being discussed is actually a fine bunch of musicians. My opinion of BBE is that the group is certainly a step above some groups who sell many CDs.
Of course, there aren't too many big bands around these days (compared with 20, 30, or 50 years ago), and this ensemble is right up there with the best of them.
Three cheers for GBK and his colleagues.
Regards,
John

John ... I agree, a highly professional group with an extraordinarily mellow sound.
