Thanks to everyone for their thoughts on my R13 that was stolen a few months ago. I purchased a new one a couple days ago at a local store and I like it, but I've found it to be very sharp (about 20 cents?) all over the range, even at the very bottom, in an air conditioned room at the store. I took it out again yesterday at my house to see how the pitch might have changed in a different setting (low AC but high humidity), but it's still pretty sharp, uniformly, but the register tuning C is especially sharp. I know there are worse things than buying an instrument that's sharp, but does anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it this hot humid Long Island weather? I'll probably wind up buying a 67 barrel to ameliorate it a little bit, although I think it'll still be a touch sharp anyway ... I tried a regular 67 barrel and a 67 moennig and they helped a little bit. Could it be worth returning?
Ideas?

lucky you, my clarinet is always flat so i use the 65mm barrel and it's ok but not perfect (i think everything else here is sharp!). also a different barrel length will affect the throat notes more and the more holes you close the different barrel will affect it less.
just open it a little and it probably will be fine, or buy a longer barrel. basically, what bradley said.

Yes, otherwise I think pulling out could be a relatively effective fix, but I haven't played the instrument for more than 30 minutes at a time yet, so I don't know how much sharper it'll get after I'm really warmed up. To handle the throat tones I also pull out a bit (although on this instrument, more than a bit), between the upper and lower joints. I'm just a bit nervous that despite pulling out in the middle and at the barrel (even in addition to picking up a 67, perhaps), that might just not do the trick. But we'll see ... thanks for all the tips.

This begs the question: If the R-13 was consistantly at least 20 cents sharp through out the instrument (in a fairly cold room), with some notes being even sharper, why did you purchase it? ...GBK
