The University of Cincinnati - College Conservatory of Music.
It's currently my top choice for college, as I'd love to study with Richard Hawley (provided he is still there).

Don't want to be part of rumor, but it is interesting that the principal clarinet job with the Louisiana Philharmonic is open...Does LSU have an openening for a clarinet professor?

Steve Cohen has taken the job at CCM for the upcoming year. Ronald DeKant is going to LSU to temporarily fill Steve's old job at least for this next year.

I have no idea. Now I can't see how someone would quit a principal clarinet job in a professional symphony orchestra to go teacher at a school unless there is a significant increase in salary. Is this the case?

For some people having a principal clarinet job in a professional symphony orchestra isn't the end all be all to career choices. It might have simply been a step towards something else, though i'm sure he wouldn't leave unless there were a pay increase. Still, he plays with the Brevard Symphony as principal during the summer and that i'm sure provides him with lots of orchestral fun. But ask yourself, how many times can you play Beethoven's 6th and it not become some what redundant? Besides that, teaching is a very lucrative career for those who can get a job and along with teaching comes many more performance opportunities that he might not have been afforded as the full time principal of a professional orchestra. He can now look into chamber music, maybe even subbing with orchestras around Ohio (ie, cleveland and cincinnati) or maybe there's a vacancy opening up that we don't yet know about... one never really knows. But I'm sure this decision will only better his career. I think Steven Cohen has such a beautifully singing style of playing. His phrasing very much harkens to the old school of playing where all technical problems seem to be resolved with a musical answer. Absolutely gorgeous playing. CCM has gained a great teacher and an equally connsumate performer.
