 "par excellence" - Karl Leister
Author: Tim2

I got my CD in the mail today. Has Poulenc, Saint-Saens, Debussy, Widor (Introduction and Rondo), Milhaud (Sonatine) and Francaix (Variations). As was said by others earlier, this CD is very good. I, too, like Karl Leister's tone. I also like what he does with the music (style). Debussy sounds so dreamy, Saint-Saens sounds very romantic and dramatic. The technique he displays in all these pieces is superb. Everything is so clean. He plays like he has room to spare, he could go twice as fast if he wanted to. Effortless. I am quite taken with the Widor, never having heard this before. It takes a real flurry of technique and artistry to make this piece what it needs to be. Never heard the Francaix either prior to today. Great music performed the way it should be. If you are considering getting a recording of any of these sonatas or other pieces, this CD should do it for you.

Anyone else feel anything here could be defined a "definitive" recording?

What a nice early Christmas present.

What's the title of that CD and where may it be purchased? I'd be interested in getting it for myself.

I absolutely agree with you about Leister. If you could post the reference number of the record, I would be grateful. In return, my Christmas present to myself is Mozart's Magic Flute in a contemporary arrangement for three basset horns and timpani, played by a marvellous French group called Le Trio di Bassetto. If anyone is interested, the name of the label is K617, and the reference number is K617097. The same players also have made a superb four-disk collection of Mozart's complete music for clarinet, with the 18 basset horn trios by Stadler as a bonus. The price is reasonable -- about 150 francs or $25 for the complete set here in France.

I have the CD - Camarata label - 30CM-415. I bought it on Amazon.com. I think there is a link here that will give a percentage to Sneezy.

Is it just me who feels somewhat clumsiness in his Wuritzer and too darkness for French music?
