Hey guys!
I'm a poor university student looking for a clarinet just to play around on (rented all through high school, couldn't afford to buy :( ), and my friend has allowed me to try hers out before I buy it.
Anyway, it's a plastic, probably the base student model, and the only marking I can find is the name "Philharmonic" on the bell. Has anyone ever heard of this brand? Any ideas on quality comparability to, say, a student model plastic Yamaha? Because if this is just some knock-off cheesy made-in-China-by-a-company-that-doesn't-know-musical-instruments, I'd like to stay away from it.
Thanks y'all! ^__^

Well, F.L., any horn with a name like "Philharmonic" and no other markings looks pretty iffy. How much does your friend want for it? Fifteen (U.S.) dollars or less, if its intonation isn't too bad, would be maybe okay for something just to noodle around on. Quality? I wouldn't get my hopes up.
Personally, I'd look for something else. When in doubt... you know the rest.

FL,
It might be a good idea to have a repair tech look at it. Some clarinets are so poorly built that they can't be adjusted or repaired and it has been mentioned on this BB that the techs will turn down requests to work on them.
Regards,
Hans
