This might sound silly, but, just like first love/kiss, whatever..your first debut scene must be something quite unforgettable, if not indelible..
When my teacher told me that I would also perform at his ensemble's regular concert, I thought he was joking. After only several months' lessons, that sounded absurd. But I did, and whenever I watch the recorded moving file , I shiver with embarrassment..Still, the only consolation is that it was Concerto B flat for 2 clarinets by C.Stamitz, 1st mov. so at least the duet part is 'listen-able'...Maybe, I'll be a better performer next time, I hope.
Pro debut stories will definitely be more glorious, I imagine. But if you're an amateur, I think we all share that freaking nervousness(or total lack of it, due to ignorance--that was me), cold hands, accelerated heartbeats etc. when you were several minutes away from the stage.
If you could share the story of your first stage performance as amateur(or pro) clarinetist, it will be most interesting....

As a non-music major, clarinet is a hobby. I have taken some music theory in college and have had clarinet lessons more recently.
Last December I performed Andante and Allegro for Clarinet and Band by C. Lefebvre. It is not a (what I consider) a clarinet classic. It had some tricky fingered sections. It was the only clarinet arrangement for band that the community college had where I performed this.
I was so nervous when the time came to actually perform the piece. My clarinet instructior and I thought it was a great idea well in advance but as you get closer and closer to the actual performance you ask yourself why you did this to yourself.
Well, you do it for the experience. Fortunately the concert and my performance were recorded. That is one of the best ways to hear what the audience hears and where you need to improve. It is a learning experience by far.
Will I do it again? Yes. I am in the process of arranging mvmt 2 from Mozart's clarinet concerto and an Aria that I found for clarinet and piano so the band I perform with can back me up. Not only will the performance be and experience, but arranging the band parts will be a leap of learning for me too.
