What is the best edition of the weber concertos? I own the International Music Company edition ed. by Reginald Kell. It has some added notes in the 1st mvt. and wrong notes in the second movement.
I understand that there are many editions just like the mozart clarinet concerto but what would be the most used and accurate?

I've collected most editions I think...and actually end up slicing most of them up and using the best bits from various editions.
It depends on whether you like Baermann's suggestions for articulation and ornamentation or not. If you think that they have no place, then a good old boosey edition stands up well.
If you (like me...) like Baermann's contributions, then the editions edited by Carl Baermann are a good choice. Pamela Weston's are also good, as she writes the part out twice, with the original on one, and her suggestions on another stave.
When's that Barenreiter edition coming out? lol

You can see in some cheap editions Weber's original clarinet line in the piano score.
I think it is very important to see exactly what Weber wrote in the part. I also think it is important to see what Baermann did, but not necessary to actually DO what he did.
These pieces have acquired a lot of baggage over the years from performers, starting with the great Baermann.
Antony Pay's recording represented a fresh approach to me which I really appreciated. You also get to hear a heroic performance on a clarinet similar to Baermann's with Pay. Plus he is a great artist and a deep, intellectual musician.

Henle just came out with Concerti 1 and 2, as well as the Concertino. They look beautiful, and Henle always tries to be true to the autograph.
In the Concertino, Henle has two clarinet scores, one of which I believe has the Baermann cadenza.

So the Henle has 2 seperate parts?
I think a Briehthopt (sorry if it is misspelled) edition would be great because I could add my slurs. The other editions are a pain because I have to continually scratch out slurs and put them different ways.
If the henle has 2 parts, it would be perfect.

Either the International edition or the Breitkopf edition are fine. Most clarinetists will eventually tailor the piece to their own style and taste regardless.
I haven't seen the Henle edition yet.
As to the Pamela Weston editions, she is neither clarinetist nor performer. Enough said... GBK
