 best internet radio for clarinet?

What in your opinion is the best 'clarinet friendly' internet radio station? (I know the Klezmer one, but I'm looking for classical/maybe jazz). Here in England I usually listen to Classic FM (commercial station) on the radio, but when I get nostalgic for New York, I listen to WQXR on my computer. I sometimes try to look at the playlist in advance, and if there's a clarinet work mark it in my calender, but then I usually forget to tune in. Is there a better way? I would think that with the specialization you can get with internet radio that there could be a clarinet/flute/trombone channel(s). Perhaps that's a tad obsessive :).

What do you listen to?

Hello again, J W P, I also have WQXR available on my computer, and often go to it, while surfing, in the late afternoon when our "local" FM goes to NPR's All Things Considered news. It is KRPS, Pittsburg [State University], KS, has a web-site but not internet radio tho [as far as I know, will ask!], just two ?phone-line? re-broadcasts on FM, good fidelity. Perhaps by my and other's communications and financial support, they play woodwind et al inst. CD's quite frequently, I'm listening much of the day. Our other FM classical music sources, more for Okla travel than home, are KOSU [OK State] and an Edmond {OK City} college, which are mainly NPR. Again I doubt any internet radio. I'm listening to a flute concerto at this time !! Don

Thanx, Mark, Don

Greetings!

Go to listen.com and download a free trial of Real Rhapsody(the RealPlayer people).
I just signed up and it's blown my mind.
You are your own programmer(!) and you can listen to clarinet music all day and music that you choose! No more commericials, weather, and other nonsense.
In seconds you can listen to all your favorite artists 24/7! They have a library of over 600,000 pieces. Furthermore, they have programmed radio stations for all kinds of music genres, from classical to world. Don't believe me. Check it out for yourself. If you like it after a week, it's outrageously expensive at $9.95 PER MONTH (4 gallons of gas these days).

Nope, couldn't connect to listen.com. Sounds nice, and I've seen that service elsewhere, but I'd rather not pay :). Also, I like the cosiness of a real station. WQXR is great - it is very comforting to hear the American broadcasters' voices to me. And their playlist is very accessible and full. It's just the time difference (I'm 5 hours ahead, so when there's something that I'd like to listen to I'm usually out). However, I'm going to fool around with my computer diary and get it to alert me, etc.

Speaking of NYC classical music stations, can anyone tell me the call letters of another station that went bust (or ceased to play classical music) in the early 80s (I think). My dad used to listen to it all the time and it was considered even more 'classy' than WQXR. I believe it was WNCN, but I may be getting that confused with a Connecticut college station that plays classical during the day.

Thanks,
Elizabeth

Mark: Apropos of not much, in California, Diesel fuel now costs more than gasoline. Maybe I should start making my own.

John
