Author: ron b  Date:   2004-05-09 02:54 Well, Joanna, lotsa folks have a lotta thoughts on this subject. A search will likely yield several hours reading material and they make great bedtime stories. There are many routines to choose from, all pretty good, so right before you fall asleep just pick one that suits you. Be happy; all your problems are solved for the moment and you're ready for a restful night of pleasant, melodious dreams My personal method, the tried and true one that's been quite successful for me since as far back as I can remember is not too complicated. I take one out of the box, wet it, and play it. Just about any brand is okay by me. I like 'em to have a somewhat resistant feel so 3 1/2 Ricos (regular) have been okay by me for years. A reed usually lasts me about four to six weeks of consistant, moderate playing (hour a day, more or less) - three/four weeks if I play a whole lot (two to three hours a day). When I'm done playing I swab the mouthpiece, wipe the reed and place it back on the mouthpiece with the ligature loosened. - rn b -
