 whistle

I always whistle my favorite melodies (mainly alone, people don't like me whistling).
I've developed a good proficiency in this "art", two octaves range, stacatto, good pitch, fast passages, change of tonality, etc.
how about your experiences?

My father claims not to have a musical bone in his body...

But whistles better than plenty of clarinet players can play!!

I don't get it GBK. Am I supposed to be seeing something, such as parrots, or just hear someone whistling?

Lol! I think I have the widest range of whistling of anyone I have ever met, but I admit I never actually recorded my range. I just know I can whistle super high to the point of ppl getting annoyed and really low from the back of my throat.

I can also do a good flutter tongue and "water drop" sound. I think I'm pretty good at doing bird songs with it. :) I also like to whistle songs when I am just sitting around.

As for my boyfriend, I try to teach him to whistle and he can only produce one high pitched horrible sound. lol

"You know you don't have to act with me, Steve. You don't have to say anything, and you don't have to do anything. Not a thing. Oh, maybe just whistle. You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and... blow"

Lets see.... when I "put my lips together and blow" I can do pretty fair renditions of the first movement of Mozart's D major Flute Concerto, the Badinerie from Bach's B minor Suite and, my proudest acheivement, the violin part to the Scherzo from Schumann's 2nd Symphony.

However, I don't think that's what Lauren Bacall's character had in mind.

I can't whistle at all. But if you want to hear possibly the world's best professional whistler (and harmonic virtuoso and guitarist), check out "Toots" Thielemans. He even has a website: http://www.tootsthielemans.com/

Brad Terry, the jazz clarinetist from Maine, is one of the finest whistlers I've ever heard. He told me once that sometimes when his chops get tired during a gig he'll stop playing clarinet for awhile and whistle his solos. I never heard him do that but I think it would be a fun listen.
