Sorry, I have more questions on Concerto A
Author: LeWhite

Sorry Mark, I know you closed the thread, but I have some questions after reading more posts.

Would it be fair to request a replacement 65mm barrell because of the tenon ring problem, as well as a replacemet bell? I know these might be hard to obtain, and expensive if possible. And, the funny thing is, I probably won't use the barrell - I actually prefer using one of the barrells I got with my Bb on the A anyway.
Do bells effect the way an instrument plays THAT much? Should I simply try to keep this bell in good condition (have MY tech look over it?)? Any 3rd party bells which might do the trick OR be better?

The fact is, I knew someone returned it, and Lisa's reasoning was that 'Not alll people like the clarinets she chooses' which is certainly true. However, I had NO idea it would be cracked or any of the other issues.

I haven't contacted Lisa yet - it's easter! I will after though, as soon as I know exactly what I'm asking for.

I'd like to do anything in my power to keep this clarinet, it's a gem, it took me 6 months to get, it's the only Concerto A in the world I could find (since the fire they're IMPOSSIBLE to get), and it was brannenised at someone else's expense! If the register key cracks, I can easily get that filled in. The other factor is, coming from Chicago, where I live (In Australia), we have nowhere near the temperature extremes Chicago has. Our winter does not snow and our humidity is relatively stable - plus I have a BAM case to protect this clarinet very well.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I'm glad there's such a wealth of knowledge here!

I just sent my barrel (my 65mm) to be replaced because it had a crack in the bore through WWBW. I definetly think you should do the same with these- only problem is you don't have a bell to use in the meantime.

Well, if he had waited for 6 months to get the concerto, chances are that he's been using some OTHER clarinet as his main one until then. So until all this is all straightened out, there shouldn't be a problem since there's probably another whole clarinet somewhere to use in the meantime.

Hi again, LeWhite

If it were me I would ask for a new bell and just have the rings tightened on the barrel if that is the only problem with it. Even if you knew it was a return, I wouldn't think you should be expected to accept a crack that you weren't told about.

Looks like you got your tail caught in the wringer and you've already made up your mind what your going to do about it. So ...... in the future, have confidence in your decisions. Next time, please share all the facts before asking for advice.

Joe.
