Who's the best to talk about old school clarinets?

Ok, so a 1947 Prestige B flat isn't as old school as they come, but I plan to sell mine, and I just wanted to talk with someone about it first.

Anyone heard of Dick Pendleton? :) He's the dude that played this horn.

Dave Spiegelthal probably knows a LOT about old horns. Vytas too. (search on the board under their names, click on their profiles and hopefully their email addresses will be there). Both are techs. Gordon NZ probably knows a bunch too. Although I don't know how much they know about this PARTICULAR horn, it's as good a place to start as any.

Don't know quite what you're looking for and hesitate to clutter up the BB with idle chatter. If you were to make your email address available you might get some

There is no such thing as just a Prestige. R-13 Prestige? RC Prestige whatever Prestige? First two were not even invented in 1947 anyway. If it's a Buffet check the serial number again.

Hey, it's great to get your opinion! Wow, I am glad I asked about this. It is, apparantly, a Buffet (duh) R13 Prestige. When DID they begin with the Prestige horns? I am anxious to find out!

:)

Cover-the-holes, are you being sarcastic? Ask your question clearly, and wait for a day or so for some discussion. This is not a chat room and you are not guaranteed an instant answer.

I did a two minute search on Dick Pendleton and got zero hits here on Sneezy and a Google reference to D. P. playing clarinet with a Doc Evans on a dixieland recording in 1957. The Buffet R-13 or RC Prestige dates to 1980 or 90, something like that.

Not in 1947, it wasn't.

maybe the person said that this clarinet was played by a "prestig-ous" person. And perhaps your ears filtered out a syllable here and there . . . it happens.

If you know the serial number you can find out the manufacturing year here:

I was playing clarinet in 1947(high school). I don't recall Buffet being that popular at least among our clarinet section. Selmer and Conn were well represented.
