 Teeth Pain
Author: Alyra

With my new B:45 mouthpiece, the sloping is rather..more dramatic, than my Buffet mouthpiece (and I love my B45), but I found while playing it, my teeth hurt (2 front teeth). I also noticed my emborchure was rather different on this mouthpiece.

So, the question begs, do I need a sticker/pad thing on the mouthpiece, or is it simply a case of adjusting to the new mouthpiece?

I have also not played for a week due to a virus, so perhaps my embrochure suffered as a result of that..

Alyra,
IMO you should not continue to play until you have discussed this with your dentist, just in case it is something serious.
Regards,
Hans

I think that you should just try a sticker on the mouthpiece and see what happens...If your teeth continue to hurt then talk to your dentist. But I hope a hope that a sticker will solve your problem. Your emborchure should improve too with a sticker.

You might also try switching to a double-lip embouchure so that you aren't using your teeth to grip the mouthpiece.

If a virus such as influenza is capable of making joints ache, I wonder if it is also capable of making teeth ache.

The possibilities are endless, however, I have experienced similar pain whilst suffering with a viral infection or during sinus infections...remeber the instrument vibrates as a conductor of sound through the skull so this will create even during healthy times a degree of discomfort....

I woud never blame a given facing however....get some sleep or take a pain reliever if you have to play....

Try a mouthpiece patch. My front teeth are sensative enough so I can't play comfortably without one. I just tried the Vandoren ones and they work pretty good, I can also vouch for the Bay and BG patches which also work well. A call to your dentist might also be in order to put your mind at ease.

Seems pretty simple to slap on a piece of electrical tape to test theories...

And enough schilling for fillings, Hans...

The electrical tape on the mouthpiece is a great idea. I also like the thin transparent patches trimmed to a minimum size. Several of my teeth were tender and, at one time, my front teeth even felt a litttle loose. After peridontal full mouth surgery, about $3500, everything feels great. They scraped infection from all teeth roots and sewed everything up again. This also is said to prolong life because a source of continuous infection is removed. I never heard of it before but am grateful for it. Let's hope you do not need it! Good luck!

I'm with Gordon here ... I've had a shocker of a virus that made all of me ache ... including my teeth (what's left of them) ... could be a possibility, for sure.
