Has anyone used the BAM or Pro-Tech lightweight A-Bb double cases? If so, how do you like them? Any other suggestions???? (I'm tired of carrying around my Altieri covered wooden stock dbl case.)

Can't speak for the dbl case, but I use a Pro-tec single case (fits inside my tenor/flute/clar case). It fits the instrument very well and securely (no flopping about) and is very light. The zipper pouch on the outside of the case holds most everything I need. Plus all the Pro-tec cases come with shoulder straps (even the flute case!).

I use a BAM double case and it is very light (I have it set up back pack style) The only problem with it is it's falling apart and I haven't even had it for a year yet. It is glued together poorly....I am going to look into possibly getting it sewn somewhere. A friend of mine that has one is having the same problem and she tried to contact the company and they ended up putting someone on the phone who was speaking French, claiming not to know any English. And this was an American telephone number... IMHO, I think that you shouldn't invest in this (costly) case due to the poor quality of it's make.

I was given a ProTec double case and finally used it on a European trip. It served very well, holding much more than I had first thought. My only concern was that I thought it was a bit light and would not protect the instruments as well as my usual double case. However, when the shoulder strap slipped and the case and instruments fell down a flight of stairs, I changed my mind when I discovered the instruments were totally unharmed. Obviously, I think the ProTec is a very fine case indeed! Doug P.

I think the ProTec double case is a wise investment. It is much cheaper than any other double, including the BAM. The Bam is mainly for looks- a backpack for clarinets CAN be convenient... but is it really worth an arm and a leg? I am a proud, happy owner of a ProTec double case (and two single cases as well) and think they are great. All three have held up for years; the oldest is five years old.

I have an Orly triple case. And when it has all three clarinets plus my Harrison 3-mouthpiece case, 3 12-reed cases, my Dr. Beat, plus music, it's still lighter than my Buffet double case and Altieri bag with no accessories.
It's also significantly thinner than the Pro-Tec double case.

I have a BAM double backpack, its really great! Very durable its lightmweight.....but it depends on how much stuff you out in it! good luck!~*tree

I very much agree with Mary Beth's assessment of the Pro-Tec double clarinet case....I, too, was faced with having to find a lighter-weight alternative to a rather heavy original-vintage Buffet wood-block double case....and in all my shopping around & comparing, the Pro-Tec double case beat out all competitors, hands down, as far as construction, protection, durability, user-friendliness & reasonable price were concerned. I still retain the much- heavier wood-block cases for long-term "storage" of clarinets; but for ease of transport & very good protection for a set of clarinets, the Pro-Tec cases are hard to beat. I liked my case so much I GAVE an identical one to my most special clarinet colleague, who very much needed such a Godsend to protect & easily transport her set of very fine R-13's....and to make it easier on herself due to shoulder & back problems. She was very pleased, as was I, with how much lighter the case is; yet it still provides excellent protection (and looks very nce, too.) Hope this helps you out some. -Debbie Haugh
