I was rinsing my mouthpiece after I was done playing, because my teacher told me to. Anyways, I was looking into my mouthpiece when I saw this nasty reddish-brown build up inside! i got it off with a q-tip, but it was pretty nasty. Any suggestions on A) preventing it B) getting rid of it. The inside of my mouthpiece also has a whitish tinge to it... calcium buildup? I rinse my mouth b4 playing... maybe I need to brush my teeth too now...

Rinsing it more often should take care of much of the problem. A first rinse after years (?) of playing would likely discover lots of buildup.

I don't wear lipstick at all and I rinse after playing. Except during school... maybe that's my problem...

Could it be some kind of fungus or algae? If it's in the mouthpiece there are likely to be spores further down as well.
Making sure that your clarinet and mouthpiece are dry before you put them away should discourage it from growing back.
