Has anyone else tried to make their clarinet sound like a saxophone or oboe? If I hold my mouth loosly and open my throat I can make the clarinet sound quite a bit like a bad saxophone, and if I kind of move my throat to the "eee" position and hold the mouthpiece somewhat loose I can make it create a nasal tone somewhat like an oboe.
Also, I just posted this in another thread, but I think I'll post it here in my own thread:
Something I've just discovered is a new sound effect that I can only do well on high D for some reason. When I bend the note down to A and move my mouth just right (no margin of error), I can make that A and an A an octave above it play at the same time, and if I do it right, I can make the frequency of those two notes work together in such a way that it makes a really weird warbling sound.

lol. That's an interesting bit about those As! I'll have to try it! As for changing the tone of the clarinet, yeah. I fool around for a while. And it can come in handy for various pieces of music.
I typically hear tonal changes in jazz. When I listen to my Benny G CD's I notice he can changed the sound of the clarinet to a more "middle eastern" sound (I don't think it's quite like an oboe) in order to play certain portions of improv. And he can thin it the sound well too.
That's just when I notice a change in the entire clarinet's sound.
