A group of want to form a trio consisting either of two Bflat clarinets and basset horn or clarinet, basset horn and bass clarinet. Does anyone have suggestions? I'm prepared to do some transposing. Many thanks.

beejay ... sounds to me as though it would be a fine combination (Bb Sop, Basset Hound and Bass) ... I would have a preference for using two Bb Sops and a Bass ... but then again I am about to start work on a piece for ... wait for it ... 2 bass, 2 contra-altos and 1 contra-bass clarinet (can't wait - Ontario, look out).

Diz,
That sounds pretty awesome. We arranged a couple of Bach chorales for clarinet, basset horn and bass clarinet which sounded great, and I'm looking for more like that. Of course, I know about the Mozart divertimenti for three basset horns (clarinets) which are on order. And I found a Beethoven trio on Oliver Seeley's site which looks promising.

He has performed such a wonderful service for us clarinetists that I should get his name right. It is Oliver Seely.

There are also some clarinet quartets that include basset horn if you have someone to play bass clarinet.
