I just saw an ad for a new plastic "C" clarinet that had a wooden barrel and bell.
That really started me to think.
I'm not sure the wooden bell would have much of an affect on the tonal qualities, but...the wooden barrel?? I would think that switching from a plastic to a wooden barrel on a plastic instrument would definitely have a tonal quality change.
Have any of you tried a combination like this? Could one expect a radical change in tonal improvement by removing the plastic barrel and installing a wooden one?
I appreciate your comments.

The interior dimensions of the barrel bore have a vastly greater effect on its contribution to tone quality, intonation and response, than does the material of which it's made. So a wooden barrel may play better, worse, or the same as a plastic (or hard rubber, or aluminum, or strawberry Jell-O) barrel of approximately similar internal dimensions. Now, material STABILITY is a different story........
