hey all,
i was recently introduced to this piece and immediatly fell in love with it. The whole piece, especially "extended clarinet solo" at the end is amazing....which brings me to my question. Does anyone know where i could obtain the solo clarinet part for this fabulous piece? (an online free source would be preferred, but i def wouldn't mind shelling out the money for an excerpt book with it inside!
thanks

there really isn't that much to it...you could figure it out by ear.
i don't think excerpt books would have anything liek that. maybe you can find a music library to photocopy it?

Narrator- We discussed Blue Shades at length a few months ago, I'd suggest that you search for our comments, here. Is it still available GBK? Ken Kolb with the Langley Air Force Band played/recorded it [VERY WELL], and could answer your questions. As I recall, it is quite expensive to obtain the score/set for band. Luck, Don

Thanks for the plug, Don. I concur with GBK on the way to get an originally published 1st clar part. And considering the chart has become a contemporary concert band standard and popular clarinet solo, a serious player would want to do it right and pay for the script and nice quality paper for their private collection ... not a Xerox copy on the cheap.
I myself, do not own a 1st part. I only performed/toured on parts issued to me from our library, erased my pencil marks and turned them back in when finished. However, I AM at liberty to forward and/or share personal recordings of my ex-band's concerts as well as rendition(s) of the Techeli I covered the 1st part and solo. v/r Ken
