Would appreciate any advice.

I used to be quite a proficient clarinetist (Grade 7) and did A level music but for some bizarre reason, did not pursue my love after college and realised these last years how much I miss it!

Now at the grand age of 26, am trying to seek out people who would like to meet and play so I could get back into the swing of things but really don't seem to be making any headway!!!

Any ideas for individuals, associations etc I could make contact with?

Ta.

I too quit playing clarinet after college. Thirty years later, I purchased an old grenadilla Selmer and got back into it. I play better now than I ever did.

I feel it's like riding a bicycle, your body never forgets these connections between eye, hands, lungs, and the brain. A little practice to toughen up your chops, and you are better than ever.

Now I play a wonderful Leblanc LX in my local community band. We have a mix of pros and amateurs who share a love for performing live music. We are not the best, but we are pretty damn good!

Not knowing where you live, it's hard to advise joining a community group, as they may not exist. But I am sure there are many amateur musicians around who would love to play with you, perhaps even start a new band. Take the initiative.

Good luck

Put your hometown in a response to this board. You might meet someone that way.

Beccs

Where are you based I guess from the exams you list in the UK?

There are loads of community based wind bands that welcome returners of all standards. If by chance you are in the Maidenhead area let me know as I'm actively trying to recruit clarinettists to a band I play in.

this site may help you find others

CJB - I work in Maidenhead, please get in touch.

If there are so many people on this board unwilling or unable to have a civil and balanced discussion about important issues, then I shan't bother to post here any more.

To the great relief of many of you, no doubt.
