My clarinet teacher has recently given me this piece to learn over the rest of the summer. Does anyone have any information about this piece that will help me in any way? I forgot to ask my teacher about tempos before he left for holiday, so that information would greatly help. I have searched the Bulletin Board database and did not find anything. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

I don't know much about the piece (other than having heard it). If you enjoy recordings, I have Victoria Soames "Solo de Concours: Music from the Premier Prix". It contains this piece, as well as many other great songs. It will probably be of a lot of help to you (check amazon.com if you're interested).

The Soames CD is a wonderful cd. It has many works on it:

Eugene Bozza - Bucolique
Andre Messager - Solo de Concours
Reynaldo Hahn - Sarabande et Theme Varie
Claude Debussy - Premiere Rapsodie
Philippe Gaubert - Fantaisie
Gabriel Grovlez - Lamento et Tarantelle
Jean Francaix - Tema con Variazioni.

Background information on Reynaldo Hahn is rather simple to find (Groves, Bakers, etc...) For additional insight, you might also look up Marcel Proust.
The piece is fairly self-explanatory - a simple Sarabande, followed by a theme and 4 variations, and finally a brief coda...GBK
