A while back I purchased a compliation CD put out by Philips titled "The Best of Weber." The CD contains Weber's Clar. Concreto's No1 & 2 as well as the Clarinet Quintet.
The clarinetist is listed as Herbert Stahr on all three pieces. The Concertos are listed as having been done by the Staatkapelle Dresden and the Quintet by members of the Berlin Philharmonic Octet. The original recordings appear to have been made in the mid sixties according to the liner.
I've done an Clar-BB archive search on Stahr with no results and Google only returns listings on about 5 different recordings on which he is listed.
Can anyone provide any information about him?
Thanks in advance
Rick

I haven't found any additional information on him than what I know from memory.
Herbert Stähr was principal in the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra from as far as I know late 40th. He was the other principal next to Karl Leister from 1959 until his retirement in the early 70th. He was a member of the Berlin Philharmonic Octet for many years and has made many chamber music recordings as well as soloistic works under a.o. Karajan and Böhm.
