I'm in the search for a new MP. I have an M30, (which has turned out to not be a keeper), a M15 (which is ok, just not enough "depth" to the sound - but loads of flexiblity) and a Greg Smith I've had for years, but gave up on. I tried it again today, and it has good sound quality, but again, not quite enough depth, and the throat tones, especially Bb, don't sound great. SO - my question is - has any one had Greg "touch up" a MP, or had one sent to someone else to reface? or should I just pass it on (I have a standing offer), and try another one?
Another Q. - Pines - I've never played one I liked, (too stuffy) but I've heard some that sound great. How many do you have to get through to find a really good one? (I do like the barrels)
has anyone had any success refacing older Larry Combs mouthpieces? (I have two -both very bright)

Why not just buy a NEW Greg Smith? Apparently they've come a long way recently, and my new one is awesome... In my opinion, no better mpc in the world!

You might want to try Walter Grabner and see if he can help you out. He uses a Zinner, so he may be able to reface it or you can get something else from him that may work for you. Clark Fobes also makes a fine mouthpiece and does Zinners as well as his own blank. If you call him he is very helpful and extremely knowledgeable.
As to the Pyne mouthpieces, they are very different in style than some of the mouthpieces you mention. I believe he uses an asymetrical facing. It seems that people either really like them or don't. I have also hears some people sound really good on them, but any I have tried just don't work for me either. The real key is to get something that feels great to you and not that someone else sounds great on.
