My LeBlanc clarinet has silver keys, and I have noticed what appears to be rust or acid build-up on different rods, keys, and cups. Did they not put a protective coat on the keys? It cant be the acid from my fingers because some of it is in places where clarinetists dont normally touch, while the problem is not apparent in places like the ocave key, and the E,C,C#,and Eb keys. What do I do? Do I send it to a repair shop, or deal with it?

Clay,
Sounds like a bit of tarnish to me. Get some 3M anti-tarnish strips and place in the case. Make sure to put a fresh one in every six months or so. Also, keep any items with a high sulpher content out of the case such as a rubber band.

Agreed. Keys that receive constant touching with your fingers get the silver sulfide removed. My opinion: Every time you remove the silver sulfide you are removing some of the original silver and the clean silver corrodes again, and so on. Why remove it at all?
