I recently purchased a used buffet R-13 as a step up from my plastic Vito. I am really enjoying it and now would like to know how to determine its age and model. The serial number is 374677. can anyone help?
Thanks.

according to the database here on sneezy (look under equipment), your clarinet was manufactured in 1993. It is most likely a standard R-13 (and not a prestige, vintage, etc.) but you might have to contact buffet directly to determine for sure. Someone else may be able to tell you if there are any special markings to look for.

All high-end Buffet clarinets that are not R-13s will say so on a metal plate on the upper joint. The E series are labelled as such somewhere (I'm not sure where, not having looked at either very closely).

The model name, if it isn't an R-13, is between the Buffet logo and the throat A key.

You should be able to obtain info from Boosey and Hawks as they handle Buffet in this country... The 1993 sounds right, as my R13 is 3xx,xxx and it is from 1994-95.
